چکیده

We report the use of a terahertz (THz) transparent material, cyclic olefin copolymer (COC or TOPAS), for fabricating hollow-core antiresonant fiber that provides an electromagnetic wave guidance in THz regime. A novel fabrication technique to realize polymer optical (HC-ARPF) is proposed and demonstrated. The directly extruded single-step procedure using conventional fused deposition modeling 3D printer. geometry defined by structured nozzle manufactured with metal printer, which allows tailoring design various geometries microstructured fibers. possibility HC-ARPF made from TOPAS guiding region theoretically experimentally assessed through profile mode simulation time-frequency diagram (spectrogram) analysis.

3D printed terahertz diffraction gratings and lenses

3D printing opens up an inexpensive, rapid, and versatile path to the fabrication of optical elements suited to the terahertz regime. The transmission of the plastics used in 3D printers, while generally decreasing with frequency, is usable over the range 0.1-2 THz. We have designed, fabricated, and tested regular and blazed gratings and aspherical lenses for operation at terahertz frequencies....

Use of a 3D printer to create a bolus for patients undergoing tele-radiotherapy

Background: This study describes the possibility of implementing three-dimensional printing technology to create a precise construction of a planned bolus, based on computed tomography information stored in the Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine (DICOM) format file. Materials and Methods:  To create the bolus with a 3D printer, we converted data in the DICOM format to the s...

Wind Turbine Transformer Optimum Design Assuming a 3D Wound Core

A wind turbine transformer (WTT) is designed using a 3D wound core while the transformer’s total owning cost (TOC) and its inrush current performance realized as the two objective functions in a multi-objective optimization process. Multi-objective genetic algorithm is utilized to derive Pareto optimal solutions. The effects of inrush current improvement on other operating and design parameters...

Gas Sensor Based on Large Hollow-Core Photonic Bandgap Fiber

One concern in using photonic band-gap fiber (PBGF) as a gas sensor is the response time. In this type of the gas sensors, response time is the time required for gas to diffuse into the hollow-core. So considering a large hollow-core PBGF (HC-PBGF), the response time can be significantly reduced. But in the large HC-PBGF, the fundamental issue is the presence of higher order modes (HOMs). Somet...

Making 3D Replicas Using a Flatbed Scanner and a 3D Printer

This paper describes a novel approach to making 3D replicas of nearly flat objects using a flatbed scanner and a 3D printer. The surface reconstruction is based on the fact that the light in a flatbed scanner shines under a given constant angle and the CCD sensor records different intensities depending on the angle between a local normal vector of a micro-facet and the vector towards the light ...
